2012 International Shintaido Gasshuku Attendees:

Greetings! We’re getting closer to the big event. Here is some information on housing and travel before or after the gasshuku.

If you are looking for inexpensive housing in San Francisco, you might consider the San Francisco Fisherman’s Wharf Hostel. Several gasshuku attendees are planning to stay at the hostel. The rate is $35 per night for dormitory-style accommodations, right near Fisherman’s Wharf in downtown San Francisco. To make reservations, please call the hostel at 1-877-464-6783.

From San Francisco, we recommend that you return to the airport and take the Sonoma Airporter directly to the DoubleTree Hotel near the gasshuku site. When reading the Sonoma Airporter schedule, please remember that you will be taking the bus from “SFO San Francisco” to “Doubletree Hotel Rohnert Park”.

If you are interested in a little more comfortable accommodations the night before the event, we have reserved a few rooms on Monday, July 2nd, at the DoubleTree Hotel near the gasshuku site. This is the hotel where the airport shuttle arrives from the San Francisco airport.

Hope this letter finds you in good health and high spirits.

Thank you for registering for the International Gasshuku. I’m looking forward to seeing you in July. It will be a wonderful opportunity to do kumite with old friends and new acquaintances.

Recently, I have been talking with Aoki Sensei about his teaching program. He will teach two keiko for ISC members and the final keiko for all participants. He is considering a few options and in order to help him plan, he would appreciate it if we would share our “hopes and dreams” for the gasshuku with him.

Please take some time to think about Aoki Sensei’s request and reply to this email by APRIL 15, 2012.

Please write your reply in English, French or Japanese. We will translate. I will gather all our impressions and forward them to Aoki Sensei.

Greetings to ISC 2012 International Shintaido Gasshuku Participants!

We look forward to seeing all of you at Sonoma State University in Rohnert Park, California, this summer.

Here is some information on Housing and Transportation to help make your trip easy and enjoyable:

1) Please book your flight to San Francisco International Airport (SFO). Take a two hour ride on the Sonoma County Airport Express bus from SFO to the DoubleTree Hotel in Rohnert Park. Gasshuku staff will provide transportation from the hotel to the gasshuku site.

2) Please remember that accommodations at Sonoma State University are available during the event only, on the nights of July 3, 4, and 5. Before and after the event there are many beautiful places to stay in San Francisco or in Sonoma County near the gasshuku site. Please visit the Transportation page on the gasshuku website for more information and links to transportation and housing options.
